First of all, thank you all so much for helping restore the No AI banner. The incredible outpouring of volunteers who worked on it is a reflection of local sentiment about the topic. I am a bay area local and that banner was one of the first things I saw when I started playing, and my immediate thought about it was "hell yea, AI sucks". Seeing it replaced by a mural of a robot? Uh uh, No way. Had it been anything else, and I wouldn't have bothered trying to coordinate a response, but replacing the No AI banner with an AI in the form of a robot was against the principle of the message in a way that I wasn't going to just let slide.
If you've been griefing the banner or trying to prevent it from being restored, ha ha funny joke, it's been a good time and a little bit of pvp keeps things interesting - but I should remind you that this isn't political artwork, and griefing is against WPlace rules - I (mostly) haven't been reporting anyone for fighting back, because you are so outnumbered that it hasn't mattered at all, but I'm going to start (and volunteers, you should too), so take notice - drawing random scribbles or pixels, or deleting, art (except to replace it with other art) is against the rules. So is using multiple accounts to play, or using any software to place pixels automatically.
Special shoutout to anyone who spent money griefing! Stay mad 💛
Here's a new template. It's not very different from the old one, I'm updating it with the intention that it's still clear where the boundaries of the letters and the 🚫 are, but the objective is no longer to flood fill the whole thing, it is now to make it proper artwork.
I don't want this banner to just sit there taking up space. So let's keep on doing something with it!
Thoughts:
People have been drawing flowers around the 🚫, love it, keep doing it. Feel free to vary the colors, just keep them nearish to red.
we can cover the black "AI" letters with pixel art of computer chips and PCBs, in shades of dark green, black, grey.
draw some clankers in the background! inside the 🚫 where they belong.
People have been kindly not overwriting artwork that's drawn overtop the banner, keep that up! Adding artwork makes the mural more authentic and more organic, which is exactly what winning against AI looks like.
